To follow a trend that Jesse has started: here's some tips on weight-loss. I am currently watching I Can Make You Thin on TLC. Honestly, I was skeptical... thinking it'd be some weird hypnosis show, but it is truly making me think about the way I eat and think about food. The host's suggestions are great, and make so much sense (which makes me wonder why I never thought to employ these tips before!)
1. If you've gained unwanted weight, diets alone won't work. Diets won't work because you will eventually go back to eating the way you had before. It takes lifestyle changes.
2. There is no magical pill for weight-loss.
3. Eat when you are physically hungry. Don't deprive yourself because it will slow your metabolism.
4. Don't eat what you don't like just because you think that you should.
5. While eating: eat consciously.
6. Savor your food. In order to do this, take a bite then set down silverware. If it's finger food, set down the food that isn't in your mouth.
7. Chew at least 20 times for each bite.
8. When you're unsure whether you are full or not, take another bite and close your eyes. This allows you to focus on your stomach and not rely on your eyes.
9. Allow yourself to leave food behind. Food isn't wasted when it's not eaten- it's already wasted if it has been cooked.
10. When you're eating, do just that. Do not eat in front of the TV or even with the radio on. These things can distract you from your body telling you that you're full.
I truly think that I don't follow any of those things. I eat more than I want to sometimes, simply because I cooked it and don't want to waste it. I don't have much of a problem with emotional eating, but I think that I do have a binge-eating problem... I'll not eat all day and then BINGE and eat a TON. that's no good :D
I've been trying to work out. And I feel good today. Super good. I feel fit.
If you're curious why all of this has been spurred on all of a sudden, I've gained nearly 20 pounds in the past 4 months. So there needs to be a change at some point.
